Life Story for Pearl R Phillips (Reid)

Pearl R Phillips (Reid)
A Tribute For My Loved One Pearl R. Phillips Life Story
Pearl R Phillips was born in Camden, New Jersey on May 6, 1934 to the parents of Sylvester and Anna Elizabeth Blue. She attended Camden, High School. She was a blessing to her parents as she was the eighth of nine children and the only girl. Yes, she was the princess surrounded by eight brothers. She was born into a strong, faith based family. The chambers of her heart were filled with her love of life, the church, her immediate and extended family and a myriad of friends. Pearl chose to retire from Siemen’s Electronics in the 70’s where she was employed in electronics assembly when the company was relocated to Texas. She could not move her children from her family and friends in New Jersey.
Although she spent her life in the Camden area, Pearl loved to travel. As a young girl and woman, the family traveled by car south to visit family and friends. As she matured as a traveler she took to the sky. Initially she was afraid, after a few flights, she would say “the plane takes too long”. We know her ultimate trip was at the speed of light.
She was married to Robert (Bob) Phillips who preceded her in death. Pearl the Taurus and Bob the Gentle Spirit were married for 31 years. Bob’s love for the garden was complimented by her joy of cooking. The two of them traveled the highways with Bob driving Ms. Phillips. She was blessed with three children Beverly Reid, Craig Reid and Bobby Phillips (Vanella), a special granddaughter Michelle Benson, grandchildren Craig Reid, Sean Barfield, Ty Phillips, Ryan Barfield and Kim Reid and great grandson Xavier Reid.
Pearl loved to cook and bake. Hosting family holiday meals was her passion. Everyone knew when they arrived at her home they would have an awesome meal and a sweet potato pie to take home. Pearl’s servant’s heart extended to her church. Even as her health began to fail, she would provide food to the church and gifts to all of the children in the church for Hanukah anytime there was a need even when her finances were strapped. She was a faithful follower to the church where she was raised, Church of God and Saints of Christ. She so loved her church especially the music, she always had a song in her heart and if you were around her long enough, you would hear her humming.
In her quiet times she wrote poetry. Reading her poetry shared insight into her inner sanctum. Her faith in God remained strong and she daily prayed for her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces and nephews. She cherished relationships and telephone calls from family and friends. Some would say she loved the telephone….. Most of all she cherished her relationship with her childhood friend Barbara Jean Walker her travel partner, confidant and buddy. Although distance and health challenges kept them physically apart, they were on the phone until the week she passed.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents Sylvester Blue, Anna Elizabeth Blue, Brothers Isaac, David, Sylvester, Lemuel, Jeptha, Joseph, James and Samuel Blue. As the matriarch and last survivor of her generation, she leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great grandson, nieces and nephew and a host of friends.
